Twelve Track & Field Athletes Named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes

For their efforts in the classroom, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named 12 Bob Jones University Bruins outdoor track & field athletes to the Scholar-Athlete team for the 2024 season. The recognition is given to student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.40 cumulative GPA and are a junior, senior or graduate student.

Gloria Gustafson is completing an internship with BJU Press in Greenville, SC. A resident of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Gustafson observes the editorial process for textbooks for private schools and homeschoolers. She assists with the various editing and proofreading steps in the final stages of textbook production. "Interning at BJU Press has allowed me to explore a career as an editor by improving my grammar and writing skills, but has also developed me both personally and professionally," said Gustafson. "One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is that there are always opportunities to learn and improve if I look for them. Learning is a quest that requires humility, patience, and plenty of curiosity."

Ashley Henderson Interns with Travelers Rest Police Department

Ashley Henderson, a senior criminal justice major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with Travelers Rest Police Department in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. A resident of New Brunswick, Canada, Henderson accompanies a police officer in daily ride-alongs as they perform routine checks and tasks. She also participates in multiple scenario training events. "This internship made me realize that I want to be a police officer," said Henderson. "I have loved every minute of my time there, and am genuinely sad it is coming to an end. I will take with me countless hours of practical experience, skills, and training I didn't possess before."

Megan Robertson, a senior visual arts major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina. A resident of Greenville, Robertson manages all communication with gallery volunteers, assists the Fine Arts Director, collaborates on loan agreements, creates thorough training materials and plans future exhibitions. "I greatly value the experience I've received from working at FPC as their Gallery Coordinator. This position has taught me how to communicate with team members, manage a gallery professionally, coordinate and lead events on site," said Robertson. "This internship has shown me how uniquely intertwined art and christian faith truly are. This job is more than just gallery coordination, it's an extension of church ministry."

Joshua Ruddy, a criminal justice major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office in Greenville, South Carolina. A resident of Mount Airy, Maryland, Ruddy directly shadows an officer, aiding him in a variety of tasks and observing situations in the field. "Law enforcement is one of the most challenging careers in today's culture," said Ruddy. "I've seen the challenge. This internship gave me the opportunity to listen, learn and observe the different divisions within the Sheriff's Office."

Jessica DiLucia Interns with the Museum & Gallery at BJU

Jessica DiLucia, a senior studio art major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with the Museum & Gallery at BJU in Greenville, South Carolina. A resident of Rochester, New York, DiLucia organizes activities for the Home School Days events, which involve researching the artist taught each month and brainstorming the children's activity. She also attends Art Break events and runs the merchandise table. "This internship opportunity has increased my understanding of what involved art education looks like for children who are homeschooled," said DiLucia. "Since I do not interact much with children in college, this was an excellent way to get me out of my comfort zone and expand my field of researching, learning, and teaching."

"It is helpful to observe the day-to-day operations of a hospital and to take part in those activities while working with the chief nursing officer. My experience has been beneficial in planning for my future career."

"The career value of this internship was immeasurable because I learned the processes, technology, techniques, and systems of public auditing, while developing professional relationships that will be useful for years to come," said Unger. "No other opportunity could forge and refine my professional, technical, and soft skills in the way this internship has. I would do it again in a heartbeat."

Hannah Lively, a senior fashion design major at Bob Jones University, is completing an internship with Fern + Daisy based in Knoxville, Tennessee. A resident of Aiken, South Carolina, Lively works in collaboration with the owner by writing blog posts, researching competitors, performing trend analysis for upcoming seasons, helping with photoshoots and drafting tech sketches. "I appreciate the opportunity to observe and learn from a segment within the fashion industry that I haven't worked with before," said Lively. "Not only am I learning skills that will aid me in my career, but also viewing the process of research and designing from an entirely different mindset."
