David Beckwith Interns with Travelers Rest Police Department

David Beckwith, a senior criminal justice major at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this semester with the Travelers Rest Police Department. Beckwith, a resident of Hillsdale, Michigan, is gaining experience working alongside Travelers Rest police officers. His responsibilities include recording and organizing arrest information, writing and processing tickets, and shadowing officers as they patrol Travelers Rest. "This internship has allowed me to see firsthand the bravery and the love that police officers have for their communities," says Beckwith. "I would encourage individuals to do a ride along with their local law enforcement if given the chance - these officers care for their communities much more than what you might expect."

Emily-Rose Zhou Serves as Intern with Pfizer Inc.

Emily-Rose Zhou, a junior pre-med major at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this semester with Pfizer Inc. located in Groton, Connecticut. Zhou, a resident of Salem, Connecticut, is gaining hands-on experience working in the Global Molecular Pathology Laboratory of Pfizer's Drug Safety Research & Development Department. Her responsibilities primarily focus on conducting DNA research using the CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing tool, including setting up DNA sequencing processes, designing and cloning plasmids, and synthesizing RNA from DNA. "This internship is providing me with amazing opportunities to hone my molecular biology techniques and give me a real taste of scientific research," says Zhou. "I'm learning research is full of setbacks and surprises, but is ultimately very rewarding. As a pre-med major who isn't usually exposed to the pharmaceutical side of healthcare, my knowledge and appreciation of the medicine-making industry have grown tremendously."

Zachary Heltsley, a senior communications major at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this semester with the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Heltsley, a resident of Greenville, is gaining hands-on experience working with the Chamber's various committees. His responsibilities include researching and compiling policy information for publications and addresses, using social media to lead grassroots campaigns, and assisting with the Chamber's political action committee and Advocacy Department committees. "This internship has allowed me to learn more about the issues facing the business community here in Greenville," says Heltsley. "I've had the opportunity to research those issues and propose solutions that will directly affect business leaders in the Upstate. I am thankful to the Chamber of Commerce for this opportunity to connect and work with community leaders in a town that I love."

Michael Frederick, a senior Bible major at Bob Jones University, serves as an intern this semester for Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville. Frederick, a resident of Greenville, is serving alongside the church leadership to expand his exposure to church administration. His responsibilities include organizing and contributing to community evangelism efforts, attending leadership meetings and preaching. "This internship is greatly expanding my understanding of how a church works," says Frederick. "Even though all the people and ministries perform different functions, they are all needed for the Church to do its one purpose-to worship God. I'm very thankful for this opportunity to serve and learn alongside the church leadership."

"What I have learned at Carolina Moves has inspired me to consider pursuing a long-term career in property management or real estate upon graduating from college."

Sarah Longacre, a senior English education major at Bob Jones University, serves as a student teacher this semester at Mauldin High School in Mauldin, South Carolina. Longacre, a resident of Hallstead, Pennsylvania, is gaining hands-on experience by teaching over 170 high school students. Her responsibilities include creating lesson plans, teaching the students, writing tests and quizzes, grading assignments, and managing the classroom. "My student teaching experience at Mauldin High has been crucial to my education," says Longacre. "Teaching high school students with diverse needs and backgrounds has greatly developed my skills as an educator."

Jay Wilson Participates in MedEx Academy

Jay Wilson, a junior pre-med major at Bob Jones University, was chosen to participate in Greenville Health System's Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy in Greenville. The MedEx Academy is a one-of-a-kind program developed to provide hands-on experience for young people interested in pursuing careers in health care. Wilson, a resident of Greenville, will have the unique opportunity to explore health care through simulations, lectures, workshops, research and community service. Wilson will also receive materials to help prepare for graduate school admission processes and interviews, including admission tests such as the MCAT and GRE. "The MedEx Academy greatly adds to my preparation for applying to medical school," says Wilson. "This experience provides the resources I need to allow me to be a competitive candidate for medical school. I would definitely recommend the MedEx program for anyone interesting in pursuing a career in health care."

Her responsibilities include creating lesson plans, managing the classroom, and teaching math, science, social studies, and English. "Student teaching has been a phenomenal experience for me," says Rosensky. "My goal in teaching isn't just to help the students learn - I also teach so that I can learn from the students."
