Timothy Buttram Named to Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra

2013 Sep 30

Timothy Buttram recently earned membership in the Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra, one of two orchestras at BJU. Membership in the top-tier orchestra is by audition only, open to all students in the University regardless of major program of study.

Buttram, a resident of Taylors, is currently pursuing a BA in History.

The BJUSO has a long and rich tradition of presenting masterworks from the orchestral repertoire in addition to mounting award-winning productions in collaboration with the BJU Opera Association. Under the artistic direction of Dr. Dwight Gustafson for many years, the BJUSO continues its tradition of excellence with Dr. Michael W. Moore at the helm.

"I see the orchestra as a unique and important part of fulfilling the University's mission of developing Christ-like individuals for the furtherance of God's kingdom" said Moore. "The orchestral program at BJU provides student musicians high-level career and ministry preparation while contributing to the cultural life of the student body and the greater Greenville community."

The BJUSO will present its fall concert Fri., Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in Rodeheaver Auditorium on the BJU campus. The program will feature John Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Symphony No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and selections from Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger.

The orchestra will also be performing in a variety of venues in the Southeast Oct. 27-31.
