Tessie Estrella Named NCCAA All-American

2015 Nov 25

Tessie Estrella, a senior sports management major from Waianae, was named an All-American by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Estrella was an anchor on the backline for the Bruins defense which shut out eleven teams, including not allowing a goal in the regional playoffs or national tournament. Estrella also served as a captain for the squad in 2015, and scored 2 goals for the team throughout the year.

"Tessie has developed into one of the (if not the) best centerbacks in the nation," Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Her pace and hard work was recognized by her team mates and coaches and as such was selected to be one of our captains. She has one of the fastest starts on sprints, and has never had any issues dealing with some of the best strikers in the nation. Our very low goal against average is a testament to her hard work as we she really prevents high quality shots by our opponents."

Estrella is one of three Lady Bruins named as an NCCAA All-American.

The Bruins women's soccer team finished the season with a 14-9 record and won their second NCCAA national title in Division II.
