Taryn Flower Participates in ASTA South Carolina Cello Choir

2017 Sep 26

Taryn Flower, a Spanish student at Bob Jones University, participated in the 38th Annual American String Teachers Association (ASTA) South Carolina Cello Choir and workshops hosted by the University of South Carolina Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23, in Columbia.

Flower is a resident of Allen Park.

Professionals, amateurs, teachers and students from around the region take part in this annual event, learning from renowned clinicians and music faculty. Cellists of all ages and ability levels are invited to participate in the festival.

This year's festival featured clinician Zuill Bailey, a recent Grammy-winning cellist.

"This was an invaluable experience," said Dr. Yuriy Leonovich, cello professor at BJU. "The students were given the opportunity to perform in a masterclass for Zuill Bailey and came away inspired by his abilities and sound."

Dr. Leonovich also participated in the conference and taught one of the masterclasses.

The 39th Annual ASTA SC Cello Choir is scheduled to take place on the BJU campus Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018.
