Stephen Hawkey Places in PRISMA Festival

2017 Jun 27

Stephen Hawkey, a senior orchestral instrument performance major at Bob Jones University, placed as one of the top three finalists at the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA) Festival held June 12-24 in Powell River, Canada.

The PRISMA Festival is an opportunity for enthusiastic young musicians to prepare for positions in professional orchestras. PRISMA draws over 5,000 concertgoers from British Columbia and beyond to daily musical events, symphony and chamber music concerts, master classes and student recitals.

Hawkey, a resident of Hendersonville, performed Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto and was given the opportunity to study with world-renowned cellist Yegor Dyachkov while at PRISMA.

"Stephen has everything it takes to have a successful music career," says Dr. Yuriy Leonovich of BJU's music faculty. "He has the technique, the personality, the stage presence, and the charisma that make him an exceptional musician and I expect that we will see him playing alongside the greats in the next decade."
