Sha'Ron Brunson Named to NCCAA DII All-American Teams

2018 Mar 7

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) named Bob Jones University Bruins women's basketball player Sha'Ron Brunson to the All-American teams for Division II. Brunson was voted by the coaches for 1st Team honors, becoming the first player in program history to earn 1st Team recognition. She was also voted as the NCCAA DII South Region Player of the Year.

Brunson, a resident of Lancaster, is a senior journalism and mass communication major.

"There are so many well-deserving young ladies in our division so this is huge for our program to have Sha'Ron voted 1st Team," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "She has been an integral part of our program for so many years. She isn't always the leading scorer or the highest rebounder so she doesn't get the headlines but she is the most well-rounded player we have when she is healthy. She is our best defender and very often is forced to defend others taller than she is. For others to recognize her excellence at the national level is a great compliment to her."

Brunson was the lone senior on the Bruins squad this season while also serving as one of the captains on the team. Over the course of the season, Brunson averaged 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and is nearing a milestone as she looks to become the third player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

Brunson's best game of the season came on Jan. 26 as she scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win over Toccoa Falls College. She has helped set the tone offensively and defensively for the Bruins this season.

The Lady Bruins earned the #5 seed for the NCCAA DII National Tournament. The team will open the tournament on Thursday with a matchup against #4 seeded Emmaus Bible College. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
