Sha'Ron Brunson Named South Region Player of the Year

2018 Feb 23

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) named Bob Jones University Bruins basketball guard Sha'Ron Brunson as the Player of the Year for the South Region Division II. Brunson was also a 1st-Team All-Region recipient for the season.

Brunson is a senior journalism and mass communication major from Lancaster.

"I'm so happy for Sha'Ron," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "She has been an integral part of our program for so many years and has always quietly gone about her business. She isn't always the leading scorer or rebounder, but she is the most well-rounded player we have."

Brunson was the lone senior on the Bruins squad this season while also serving as one of the captains on the team. Over the course of the season, Brunson averaged 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She is nearing a milestone as she looks to become the third player in program history to score 1,000 career points. Her best game of the season came on January 26 as she scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win over Toccoa Falls College. She has helped set the tone offensively and defensively for the Bruins this season.

"She is our best defender and very often is forced to defend others taller than she is," Coach LeViere said. "She is a very capable three point shooter and can take it to the basket and loves to finish with an 'and one.' For the coaches in the region to place her as player of the year shows how her hard work and overall performance on the floor is recognized."

The Lady Bruins earned the #2 seed for the NCCAA DII South Region playoff and will face #3 seeded Trinity College Friday night in the semifinal round. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
