Sha'Ron Brunson Named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

2017 Jan 10

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) selected Bob Jones University Bruins women's basketball guard Sha'Ron Brunson as national student-athlete of the week. Brunson was selected for her play in two games for the Bruins this past week.

"Sha'Ron has worked very hard this year and has really been a great leader for the team," Bruins Athletics Director Dr. Neal Ring said. "We're excited to see her hard work recognized on a national level. Sha'Ron is a great representative of our women's basketball program and Bob Jones University."

Brunson helped the Lady Bruins split their two road games this past week. On Thursday night, Brunson scored 15 points to help lead the team to an overtime victory over Trinity College 88-78. She saved her best performance for Friday night as the senior guard set a new single-game school record by scoring 33 points in the game. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Lady Bruins fell to Florida College 76-67. Over the course of the week, Brunson shot 59% from the floor while being dominant on both sides of the ball. This season, she has averaged 9.9 points per game while helping the Lady Bruins to a 6-9 record and 3-0 in region play.

Brunson is a senior journalism and mass communication major from Lancaster. The Student-Athlete of the Week award is chosen by the NCCAA and recognizes the play of student-athletes in their respective sport. The Bruins compete in the NCCAA DII.
