Nathan Ellenwood Named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

2018 Jan 23

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) named Bob Jones University Bruins men's basketball guard Nathan Ellenwood as national student-athlete of the week for Division II Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

Ellenwood, a resident of Greenville, was dominant on the week as he helped the Bruins extend their winning streak to four in a row. The Bruins have now won seven of their last eight games and are 11-10 on the season.

"Nate impacts every aspect of the game for us," Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "When he plays well we all play well and he had a career week last week."

Ellenwood began the week with an impressive road performance against Johnson and Wales University as he finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and 3 steals in the Bruins' 98-90 overtime win. He followed it up with another dominant performance scoring 26 points and recording 12 assists and 7 rebounds in a big win over rival Pensacola Christian College on Friday night. Ellenwood wasn't done as the sophomore guard tallied 18 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists in a 77-71 win over Johnson University on Saturday.

"He is really learning when he needs to distribute and when he needs to dominate with scoring," Coach Uwarow said. "I've not seen a better player at our level this year and he is definitely making a case to be considered as an All-American or even National Player of the Year."

The Student-Athlete of the Week award is chosen by the NCCAA and recognizes the play of student-athletes in their respective sport. BJU Bruins athletics feature 13 varsity programs and are members of the NCCAA and compete as a division II institution.
