Nathan Ellenwood Earns All-Region Award

2017 Feb 28

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) selected Nathan Ellenwood as the region's top freshman player for the South Region. Ellenwood was selected based on his performance throughout the season.

"We're very proud of Nate," Bruins Head Coach Dr. Neal Ring said. "His efforts helped lead us to a first seed in the tournament and a region championship."

Ellenwood, a resident of Greenville, served as a guard for the Bruins and was voted by coaches in the region as the top freshman in the region. The freshman brought an all-around game to the team as he recorded the program's first triple double. Ellenwood led the region in assists averaging 4.5 per game. He also averaged 7.8 points and 7.0 rebounds on the year as he orchestrated the flow of the Bruins' offense.

"Nate's development over the season has had a direct impact on how we have played," Ring said. "He's worked hard and earned the recognition, and we are very proud of him."

The Bruins opened the season at 1-7 as the team struggled against some strong competition. But the squad bounced back in the second semester of play as they rattled off eight-straight wins to help propel them to the #1 seed in the NCCAA DII South Region tournament. The team won back-to-back games to capture their first region championship in program history.

The Bruins earned the #5 seed for the NCCAA DII National Tournament which will be played in Ankeny, Iowa, March 9-11.
