Mark Haxton Named to University Handbell Choir

2017 Oct 5

Mark Haxton of Bristol has been named to the Bob Jones University 2017 Handbell Choir.

Haxton is a Junior majoring in Communication.

All students at BJU may audition for the University Handbell Choir.

"It is exciting to see the group grow in size this year, allowing us to use two sets of bells and have a double choir," says conductor Mr. Alan Lohr. "The enthusiasm the group demonstrates comes through in their playing."

The group will perform during the annual Homecoming and Family Weekend in October and will present a Christmas concert and a chapel music special in December. In March, members of the choir will present a spring recital featuring a variety of music for handbells, including classical transcriptions and original compositions.

The BJU handbell program began in 1992 with three octaves of handbells and eleven recruited students. The choir has since grown into a double choir of twenty-six ringers and performs in a variety of settings including chapel, recitals, and concerts.
