Leah Petterson Named to BJU's Percussion Ensemble

2016 Dec 5

Leah Petterson of Greenville has been named to the Bob Jones University Percussion Ensemble, one of over twenty instrumental performance groups at BJU.

Petterson is a Senior majoring in Mathematics Education.

Both music majors and non-music majors may audition for the University Percussion Ensemble. Knowledge of percussion keyboard is helpful but not required to be a part of the group. Members are typically involved in larger musical groups including BJU orchestra, wind band, and concert band as well as supplying instrumental requirements for many choral groups.

"Percussion ensemble is composed of any number or combination from the vast family of percussion instruments including marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, drums, timpani, cymbals, and many others," said Rob Schoolfield, ensemble director. "This group coaxes out some of the most interesting timbres and colors when we shake, strike, rub, scrape or bow our instruments."

In addition to occasional performances for Bob Jones Academy and public schools in the Greenville area, the ensemble also presents an annual concert on the BJU campus. This academic year's concert will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Stratton Hall.
