Leah Edwards Named to NCCAA DII All-Region Team

2014 Nov 5

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) named Leah Edwards to the DII South All-Region women's soccer team.

Edwards, a resident of Delta, is a sophomore Business Administration major at BJU.

The defending national champion BJU Bruins team lost their bid to reclaim their title when Clearwater Christian College defeated them 1-0 in the NCCAA regional tournament Nov. 1 in Clearwater, Florida.

"Leah was one of the main reasons why we were so successful in 2013 and was one of our most valuable players that helped us win the national championship. She continued to play strong this year and was one of the reasons we had another successful campaign and helped us get to the regional championship game," said Dr. Chris Carmichael, coach of the Bruins women's soccer team. "She has continued to get more technical, more physical, and has really developed into a consummate center back that is also very attacking minded. Her ability to attack out of the back caused many problems for opponents. She is very versatile and although recruited as a forward has become one of the best center backs in the nation, mainly because of her speed, athleticism, and ability to stage our attacks and quickly penetrate."

This is the third season the BJU Bruins have participated in intercollegiate athletics.
