Joshua Frederick Named to President's Club

In the University's chapel service Sept. 30, Dr. Stephen Jones, president of Bob Jones University, awarded Joshua Frederick, a senior graphic design major from Thailand, the Student Worker Appreciation Award.

The Student Worker Appreciation Award is one of six President's Club awards given by the President to students at Bob Jones University.

Frederick's work manager nominated him for the award by stating, "His work ethic and the attitude with which he does his work are examples of selfless, Christlike service to those he serves and to those who work with him in the department. He takes time to instruct other workers in policies and procedures and to teach them improved ways to do their work. Josh is quick to notice when others are struggling, and it is not unusual to see him sitting alongside another worker's desk, whether student or staff, providing patient, clear and concise instruction.

Most importantly, his influence extends beyond just his work. His spiritual influence is evident among both students and staff. Josh takes his walk with the Lord seriously. It is not unusual for Josh to have his Bible open on his desk and to read a few verses as he processes calls.

In addition, Josh consistently puts the needs of others before his own. One example was moving to another desk in the department when we had a new employee coming in. He wanted the new employee to have the nicer desk and chair. He consistently exhibits Christlike character in his dealings with the callers he talks to and with his coworkers."

Students are nominated for President's Club awards by faculty, staff and their peers, and a committee selects recipients from the nominations received. In addition to recognition in a President's Club chapel, recipients have their photo displayed in the university Student Center and enjoy dinner with the president.
