Joshua England Presents at American Chemical Society

2017 Nov 22

Joshua England, a senior chemistry major at Bob Jones University, presented a paper at the South East Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) Friday, Nov. 10, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

With nearly 157,000 members, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world's largest scientific society and one of the world's leading sources of authoritative scientific information. ACS publishes numerous scientific journals and databases, convenes major research conferences and provides educational, science policy and career programs in chemistry.

England, a resident of Anchorage, presented his paper titled "Optimization of Ceramide Synthesis and Purification" describing his 2017 summer research at Cayman Chemical, a company that produces pharmaceutical ingredients and products for forensic science and biomedical research in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"Joshua did an excellent presentation of the benefits and difficulties of ceramide chemistry and their ties to leading edge cardiovascular research," said BJU chemistry professor, Dr. Robert Lee.

In addition, England is preparing a manuscript on Ceramide Chemistry based on his research.
