Jennifer Townsend Named NCCAA All-American

2017 Dec 12

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Bob Jones University Bruins women's soccer player Jennifer Townsend to the All-American Teams for Division II.

"We have been blessed once again to be represented by some truly remarkable women," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Jennifer has been a key part of our program's success and we're proud to see each one honored as some of the best players in the nation. They each have worked so hard and they play for God's glory."

Townsend, a resident of Lexington, was named 1st Team All-American for the 2nd straight season. The sophomore defender was also named the NCCAA DII National Player of the Year. Townsend helped anchor the Bruins defensive line to yield one of the lowest goals against averages in the nation. During the national tournament, the Lady Bruins yielded only seven shots and didn't allow a goal throughout the entire tournament.

"Jenny always goes hard and rarely comes out of the match," Coach Carmichael said. "She is a tenacious defender and a very intelligent player with exceptional field vision."

The Lady Bruins battled through their toughest schedule to date to finish 11-9-1 on the season. The team battled back from a 1-0 deficit in the 2nd half of the NCCAA DII South Region Championship to win the match 2-1. After earning the #1 seed for the national tournament, the Bruins defeated #4 Randall University in the semifinal before edging #3 Providence University College 1-0 in overtime to capture their 3rd straight NCCAA DII National Championship.

Bob Jones University is a member of the NCCAA and competes as a Division II institution in the South Region.
