Jennifer Townsend NCCAA DII National Player of the Year
2017 Dec 5
The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Bob Jones University women's soccer defender Jennifer Townsend as the National Player of the Year for Division II in the 2017 season.
"We're blessed to have Jenny in our program," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "She has been the linchpin of our program and has helped solidify an already strong defensive line. She is a very intelligent player with exceptional field vision and plays a key role for our team."
Townsend, a resident of Lexington, earned All-American 1st Team honors in 2016 during her freshman season. Her efforts have helped the Lady Bruins maintain one of the lowest goals against averages in the nation. The defense was again superb in the national tournament as the team didn't yield a single goal while only allowing seven shots.
Townsend played nearly every minute for the Lady Bruins this season as she started all 21 matches for the team. Townsend was also given 1st Team All-American honors for the second straight season.
"Our successes these past few seasons are due in large part to Jenny's efforts," Coach Carmichael said. "We're very proud of her and are excited to see her recognized on the national scale."
The National Player of the Year Award is voted on by women's soccer coaches in DII and chosen by the NCCAA. Bob Jones University has been a member with the NCCAA since 2012 and competes in the DII South Region.
