Jennifer Townsend Earns All-American Honors

2016 Nov 28

Jennifer Townsend, as well as three other Bob Jones University Bruins women's soccer players, was given All-American honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). Townsend was named first-team All-American and was chosen by the NSCAA and NCCAA for their play in the 2016 season.

"We are extremely proud of our All-American players," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Each had standout seasons and are very worthy of this prestigious award. Our success this season definitely came from the strength of our entire roster which was very deep this year, but these players were selected by coaches from other regions for their outstanding performance throughout a season where we saw many challenges and successes against very strong opponents."

Townsend, a freshman from Lexington, was selected first team All-American by the NSCAA as she helped anchor the Bruins defensive line. She had a stellar season in helping the Bruins have one of the lowest goals against averages in the country while also helping the team shutout nine opponents.

"As a freshman, she played at a level usually seen by upperclassman," Carmichael said. "Jenny has one of the best work ethics on the team and continues to train at a very high level. Not only does Jenny defend very well in one on one situations, but she has exceptional field vision and is a very strong link player to find midfielders and forwards and is a hallmark of the way we play out of our backline."

The Lady Bruins finished the 2016 season with a 15-6 record and captured their second straight NCCAA DII National Championship.
