Jared Lane Named to 2017 String Orchestra

2017 Oct 3

Jared Lane of Hartsel has been named to Bob Jones University's 2017 String Orchestra, one of two orchestras at BJU.

Lane is a Sophomore majoring in Music Education.

All students at BJU may audition to participate in the String Orchestra. This year's group is comprised of both music and non-music majors as well as staff from a variety of departments and divisions at BJU who play violin, viola, cello and bass.

"While these musicians come from a wide variety of majors and backgrounds, they demonstrate incredible unity both as an orchestra and as brothers and sisters in Christ," said Dr. Yuriy Leonovich, conductor and assistant cello professor at BJU. "After four years of working with the String Orchestra, God has matured this ensemble very much, and their sense of musicianship and technique has already grown this semester."

The String Orchestra will perform three major concerts this academic year. On Nov. 15, the group will host a concert featuring the works of Handel, Dvorak, and Dittersdorf, featuring Hannah Till as harp soloist. On March 7, 2018, the orchestra will perform church music from the 1700s, including Mozart's Organ Sonatas, Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Cellos, and Bach's Cantata No. 29, featuring organ soloists Dr. Ed Dunbar and Dr. Stephen Schaub, in addition to vocal faculty and string student soloists. On April 23, 2018, the orchestra will perform Bach's Keyboard Concerto in D minor with Dr. Deanna Moore, a piano faculty member at BJU.
