James "Matthew" DeHart Named NCCAA Scholar-Athlete

2018 Mar 27

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) named Bruins men's basketball player James "Matthew" DeHart to the Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2017-18 season. This recognition is given to student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.40 GPA and are a junior, senior or graduate student.

"We're so proud of Matt for the example he sets in the classroom," Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "Trust is a core value in our program and it is not a coincidence that the most trustworthy teammates are also the ones who shine in the classroom. Matt will have many opportunities available to him when he graduates because he took care of business in academics."

DeHart is an elementary education major from Taylors. Over the course of his career with the team, DeHart has been a vocal leader on and off the court and has provided a spark off the bench for the team.

The 2017-18 season was the best to date for the Bruins basketball team as the program won a record 22 games over the course of the season. The wins included a remarkable 15-game winning streak which began January 13 and ended in the NCCAA DII National Championship game after the Bruins fell to #1 seeded Randall University 86-84.

The Bruins athletics department features 13 varsity sports programs and are members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) as a Division II institution.
