Evy Beach Named to Bob Jones University Symphonic Wind Band

2017 Nov 7

Evy Beach of Lexington, a Sophomore majoring in Spanish, was recently named to the Bob Jones University Symphonic Wind Band.

BJU's top performing instrumental ensemble, the BJU Symphonic Wind Band consists of 50 selected players. Each year, performers audition by playing a group of excerpts taken from band literature or study etudes, scales, and sight reading unfamiliar music. Following that selection audition, a second audition is held for seating within the ensemble.

"The students in the Wind Band work at a rapid pace and are serious musicians, desiring to communicate at a high level with the audience," said conductor Dr. Dan Turner. "This year's group has a strong work ethic and is making great progress at becoming a very fine ensemble."

Presenting four formal concerts each year, the Wind Band is noted for its refined performances of outstanding music. The group will present a concert featuring "Luminescence" by composer David Biedenbender as well as the Symphony No. 3 "Slayanskaya" by Russian composer Boris Kozhevnikov Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in BJU's Rodeheaver Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
