Elias Villiger Places First at Collegiate Computer Programming Contest

Elias Villiger of Eggenwil, Switzerland, a 2013 graduate doing post-graduate work in premed/predent at Bob Jones University, is one of three members of a BJU computer programming team that won the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Contest held at Georgia Tech Nov. 2.

The programming contest, sponsored by IBM, brings together colleges to compete by region. Each team is given 10 problems to complete within a five hour period. BJU competed in the Southeast Region Contest in Division II against such universities as Auburn University, College of Charleston, Wofford College, Winthrop University and Southern Wesleyan University.

The contest involved solving 10 problems conducted in a GNU/Linux environment. The programs could be submitted in Ada, C, C++, C#, Fortran >=90, Java, Haskell, Lua, Pascal, Python 2&3, and Scala. The team completed 8 of the 10 problems within the five hour period.
