Darlene Scudder Serving as Community Profile Coordinator

Darlene Scudder, a graduate student pursuing an MA in communication at Bob Jones University, is working with the Mountains to Midlands Affiliate of the Upstate South Carolina Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation as the Community Profile Coordinator.

Scudder, a resident of Philadelphia, has been working with the Mountains to Midlands Affiliate since her internship during her senior year of college. She has held the position of the Community Profile Coordinator for the past year as she conducts original research about women in South Carolina's Upstate.

Scudder is currently spearheading a large awareness project for the foundation. "The goal of my project is to reduce the late-stage diagnosis rate of breast cancer and lower mortality rates from the disease for women who are at the highest risk," Scudder said.

The Community Profile focuses on identifying barriers to proper care in the counties where women are the most likely to be diagnosed in the late stages of breast cancer and proposes an action plan for the next four to five years to lower these rates in the Upstate.

Previously, Scudder served as an executive intern at the International Justice Mission in Washington, D.C.
