Claire Overly Presents at American Chemical Society

2017 Nov 22

Claire Overly, a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major at Bob Jones University, presented a paper at the South East Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) Friday, Nov. 10, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

With nearly 157,000 members, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world's largest scientific society and one of the world's leading sources of authoritative scientific information. ACS publishes numerous scientific journals and databases, convenes major research conferences and provides educational, science policy and career programs in chemistry.

Overly, a resident of Greenville, presented a paper titled "Investigating variants of a fluorescent calcium sensor towards engineering metal binding selectivity," describing her 2017 summer research at Penn State University.

"It was clear from the presentation's attendance and the lively question and answer time afterwards that Claire's work was well received," said BJU chemistry professor, Dr. Robert Lee. "We are very proud of her work."

In addition, Overly prepared a manuscript for publication titled "Investigating a fluorescent calcium sensor variant towards engineering metal binding selectivity" covering the same research.
