Caleb Woo Named to University Singers

2016 Sep 26

Caleb Woo of Evans has been named to Bob Jones University's University Singers, BJU's largest choral organization.

Woo is a Freshman majoring in Biology.

All students at BJU are welcome to audition and are placed in a choral group according to their classification and abilities. Singers are re-auditioned periodically to determine proper placement.

"I am greatly enjoying working with these energetic and talented musicians," says Dr. Pattye Casarow, who serves as conductor. "These young men and women are a diverse representation of the freshman class and work diligently to glorify God through the talents He has given them."

The University Singers will be present an exciting program of music on November 7, entitled "Voices of America: Then and Now." The selections feature American composers, arrangers, folk music, and sacred tunes from early colonial days to today. In the spring, University Singers will join with other BJU choirs to present Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo on March 2, and then again in the Greenville Peace Center on March 10. Jubilate Deo is a seven-movement setting of Psalm 100: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth." The work presents portions of the psalm in eight different languages representing "all the earth" resounding with joy.

The choral program at BJU is a developmental program comprised of seven graded choirs. Performances include concerts of standard choral literature, sacred service music, and the annual opera and oratorio performances. Each participant will have the opportunity to learn to use music for the service of God and to reach their individual technical and artistic choral potential within a program that strives for the highest level of musical excellence.
